More and more people are embracing reclaimed materials into their lives, adding home furnishings that they’ve salvaged or maybe even making their own pieces from what they can find. However, bonus points have to go to the people who have gone that one step further and have a home built from reclaimed materials.

Junk Castle

Using discarded junk that Victor Moore had found at a scrap heap, Victor and his wife built a junk castle for only $500. Victor was an artist though, and did it as part of an MFA thesis, so we can all be forgiven for not quite achieving his lofty heights.

A Tree House of Reclaimed Wood

There feels something a little wrong about feeling a tree to build a treehouse. Jean Paul Lespagnard and Ethan Hayes-Chute obviously felt similar. Once again artists, the two collaborated on this project and built a 15-by-17-by-21-foot treehouse mostly from reclaimed wood.

Bus

Fancy seeing a home built from reclaimed materials that includes an old bus? Now you can! This brilliant structure is in Japan and is quite the tourist attraction. Materials used to build it include a bus, reclaimed lumber and some odd automotive windows, but go ahead and see what else you can spot.

Bottle Village

A photo of recycled bottles all stacked on to of eachother

Here’s a thing; there’s a village that consists entirely of houses made of bottles. The first was built in 1980 and was made using around 12,000 recycled bottles. Since then another two have been constructed, and you can go and visit the village in all of its glittering glory by heading over the Canada.

We hope that we have inspired you to get crafty with some reclaimed materials of your own; come to us at Cawarden and have a hunt around to see what you can find. Who knows, you might soon be living in your own home built from reclaimed materials.
