Here at Cawarden, we wholly encourage the exploration of reclaimed materials, whether that be within the home or for exterior projects. Below, Cawarden Brick & Tile co. have listed four artists whose practices revolve entirely around the use of reclaimed materials.

Erika Iris Simmons
Erika Iris Simmons uses the pseudonym iri5 within the online community in order to share her work with a global audience. Using technology from a bygone area such as books, cassette tapes, newspapers, magazines, and other reclaimed materials, Simmons has had the opportunity to work on huge projects with her recycled tools. Simmons states that she enjoys utilising reclaimed materials, because they are ‘...[p]ast it’s prime, like some of the finest things in the world.” Over the years, Simmons has worked with vocal artists to create music videos, and even produced the 2012 Grammy’s official artwork.

Miguel Rivera
His his role as a systems administrator, Miguel Rivera wanted to give a purpose to the old hard drives that were constantly being thrown away. His first ever sculpture, made from hard drive remnants, was expertly crafted to evoke a car, desiring the heavy metal look that materials such as plastic could not offer. Since his first sculpture, Rivera has continued to create artwork from computer cast-offs to create more and more intricate styles and designs.

Aurora Robson
Aurora Robson delicately weaves sea life imagery with real social issues through salvaged plastic bottles. Robson claims to have single-handedly collected over 30,000 plastic bottles for her artwork, effectively protecting the sea and landfills from their harmful effects alongside raising awareness of a very important ecological problem in our society today. The reclaimed bottles are used to create stunning 3D sculptures, making artwork which is accessible whilst saving the planet.
