Before the turn of the new year, recycling and upcycling were poised to wholly take over the interior design world, with interior designers and fanatics alike praising earthy textures and aesthetics. Reclaimed materials were to remain a favourite interior trend of the public, encapsulating our ever-growing responsibility of utilising greener, more ethically-sourced building and project materials.

Below, Cawarden Brick & Tile Co have listed three interior design trends of 2017 that we have noted within customer projects and industry movements, and offered our predictions as to what summer 2017 will bring in regards to interior design trends.

Untreated Walls
Exposed brickwork and unpainted walls made quite the impact during the beginning of 2017. However, this raw, industrial look is hardly a new interior concept - exposed walls have been a thing since the 1970’s, when almost derelict buildings were sold cheaply to domestic and commercial buyers. The large, open spaces of the old Victorian buildings were very desirable to many, offering the ability to shape the room around your needs, as opposed to shaping your decor and living space around the available rooms. Not only are exposed walls a relatively inexpensive decorating route to take, but they can offer a concrete style and aesthetic that can be easily recreated within your furniture and decor.

Tropical Prints
Prints boasting the image of tropical trees and feathered-leaved fronds were all the rage during the Winter of 2017 - perhaps because us Brits need a little bit of summer inspiration whilst dragging ourselves through the dreary winter months. The welcome boost of colour was part of 2017’s intense interior focus on nature and natural fabrics, with tropical prints adorning frames, pillows, and decorative objects available in every well-known home interior store.

Natural texture
Reclaimed wood was very popular during the first half of 2017, boasting a natural texture that effortlessly complements the interior tropical vibes detailed above. Not only does reclaimed wood offer a sustainable way of reusing wood, but it can be wholly versatile and decorated to suit your interior needs.

Despite 2017 already seeing some iconic interior design trends, the year is far from over, meaning there are plenty of striking interior design trends to come! Here at Cawarden Brick & Tile Company, we’d predict that all matters of green will remain at the forefront of the interior world - emerald; lime; forest; if it lands on the green spectrum, expect it to see a boost in popularity over the summer months.
