The use of reclaimed roof tiles remains popular as more customers develop or extend existing properties and require a match for their roof, or wish to give their new development that instant period feel.
Many reproduction tiles have been introduced onto the market but as of yet none of them can beat the real thing!
Cawarden has one of the largest tile yards in the country covering three acres and containing over one million tiles in stock at any one time. Along with plain tiles we also carry extensive stocks of clay Pan tiles plus limited stocks of reclaimed concrete roofing products. We carry over 100,000 tile "fittings" including ridge tiles, valley tiles, Harris hip tiles, bonnet tiles and many other unusual and rare fittings.

Plain tiles can be divided into two distinct types; Hand-made and Machine-made. Hand-made tiles were produced by hand in a wooden mould and are usually "cambered" and vary in size, shape and colour .
Due to the difficulty of transporting heavy, fragile products such as tiles, a majority of tiles were produced and used locally. Thus, colour and texture of hand-made tiles vary greatly from area to area. A classic example of this is the "Staffordshire blue" which is commonly found in Staffordshire and surrounding counties, but is rare in the South of the country where the predominant roof tile colour is red.
Machine-made tiles as the name suggests, are generally more modem than their hand-made counterparts and are more universally spread over the country. For example, "Rosemary Red" tiles can be found quite literally from Lands End to John '0 Groats. In addition to clay and concrete roofing products, Cawarden also hold extensive stocks of roofing slates and a large selection of Chimney pots.
